Makers Cabinet Stria Folding Solid Brass Ruler

The Stria is a folding ruler machined from solid brass, its surface brushed back to a soft matte. The hinge is cut as a dovetail, so it opens with a firm, deliberate action and settles with a small click every 45 degrees. One edge is marked in metric and the other in imperial, so you can work in whichever suits the job without stopping to convert anything.

Folded, it comes down to about a third of its open length — small enough for a pencil case, a tool roll or a coat pocket. There is enough weight in the brass to keep it still on the paper while you draw, and enough substance that it will still be straight and true years after a plastic ruler has warped. Brass darkens gently with handling, so it picks up the marks of being used.
