Makers Cabinet Lazlo Ballpoint Pen
Most retractable pens use a spring. The Lazlo uses two opposing neodymium magnets: the tip is drawn out and held by magnetic force, and it returns the same way. The click it makes is unlike any other pen, and it is fair to say people buy this one for the mechanism as much as for the writing.
The body is machined and gently tapered, weighted so it sits still in the hand rather than needing to be gripped. It takes standard Eurostyle refills, so you are never tied to one supplier, and it arrives fitted with a Schmidt MegaLine in black along with a cork stand. Choose polished brass, which patinates as you handle it, or anodised aluminium, which stays as it is and weighs noticeably less.

Stock both finishes — brass and aluminium split roughly evenly and customers decide by weight in the hand, not by looking. A demonstration line: the magnetic action is impossible to convey in a photograph, so a working sample on the counter does most of the selling. Eurostyle compatibility is a genuine objection-handler for buyers wary of proprietary refills.
