Kakimori Nib Holder (Aizome)

A dip pen holder in Japanese cherry wood, hand-dyed with indigo by an artisan — so the blue varies from one to the next and none of them is quite the colour in the photograph.

The stem is shaped to the length and thickness of a pencil, which is the point: it is immediately familiar in the hand, and comfortable for a long letter rather than a quick note. The plastic mount takes most nibs, so it is not tied to one. Indigo softens with use, settling into a deeper, quieter blue.
